Curated a film festival named “Chick Flix” and branding, including a logo, with corresponding typography centric posters to promote it. These posters for an Advanced Typography course were required to be type-centric, and included finding a way to organize all of the information for each film, which was done using grids. Custom lettering was made with found objects in order to easily personify it, and keep it pertaining to it’s film. A festival specific and hand-made promo/giveaway lip gloss was additionally created as a hand-out to increase attendance.

LETTERING

Problem solving had to be used to create a cohesive system that would also accurately represent each for each film. A series of things were used to create custom lettering: nail polish, sticker jewels, and lipstick. After trial and error of creation, photography, and scanning, thesewere edited and put into place.

TYPE PAIRING

To not distract the eye, but still keep hierarchy and maintain importance, the remaining type was set as Arial Black. A third complimentary script type was added to each layout to act as a tag line. This was important for aesthetic values, and was made to make it feel like the main actress had signed the poster herself.

LAYOUT

The biggest obstacle was to design a system in which each title celebrated its own content yet stayed consistent with the other two designs. Most of this was done by centering each main text, and on each poster, aligning everything the same as the last using a very tight modular grid.

PROMOTION OBJECT

To further the realistic aspects of the film fest, a “promo lipgloss” was created by sanding the text off of an old tube, and printing the Chick Flix logo on using black glitter vinyl. Craft was key, as the tube was 4 x 2.5in. The printing and sticking had to remain concise. Branding was heavily considered, and lip gloss was the most successful choice as Chick Flix is targeted towards women.
